VOICED. with Dédé Davi

VOICED. #2. We’re sitting down with the incredibly talented Dédé Davi—an extraordinary singer who discovered the world of voiceover. If you ever needed a reason to attend that networking event or sit in on that talk, Dédé is here to remind us how life changing those moments can be.

Dédé Davi

How are things?

Things are good at the moment! Summer is usually a good time for me, but this year things have boomed, so I can't complain too much.

How did you find your way into voiceover?

This is going to sound mad, but I saw a tweet on Twitter about trying to get more diverse voices into it... the talk was £5. Changed my life. I had not long left my publishing deal as an artist and was in the middle of a legal battle for control of my masters. I was just looking for something else I could excel at really. I don't have an acting background at all.

You’re also a singer! Do singing and voiceover compliment each other?

Apparently, it's slightly easier to bridge the gap because you're used to using your voice to tell emotion. I can definitely see that, in terms of musicality, I have an ear, so it does help. Where it doesn't help is that you actually do need to know how to act... Voice acting is the cousin to acting and you must respect the craft of acting.

Tell us a career highlight?

I think doing the cartoon with The Voiceover Gallery and my first time at 750mph doing a huge ad. They have been real 'MAMA I've made it days'. When they ask you if you want a cup of tea .. I'm like me??! I'll make it myself! And then have to remember, oh no, I'm the talent..chill haha!

Favourite personal mantra? (That keeps you going on them tough days!)

No is a redirection there will be another opportunity. This, like any creative job, is up and down ...personally, I call my VO friend and have a rant, and he always says to me, you're moaning today, but you'll book a huge job tomorrow.. and he's right, it happens almost every time hahah!
