Jo Troy

While I can’t share details just yet (thanks to a little thing called an NDA), I can say this—what’s coming is big, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.

In a few words, tell us how you got into voiceover?

A happy accident. What started as a little side project for fun turned into a job I didn’t even know existed. And now, six years later, it’s my full-time career—and I get to call it my job.

You produce a podcast, how has this impacted your work as a voiceover artist?

It’s had a huge impact on my career.

It opened doors for networking—sometimes without me even realising it. It’s also helped me grow as a producer, which led to working behind the scenes on some incredible podcasts and audio dramas.

Best moment producing the podcast?

The first episode— when a small idea in my head turned into reality. The response? Overwhelmingly positive. It gave me the confidence to keep going and continue this journey.

Tell us one thing about the industry you wish you knew when starting out?

You can be unapologetically yourself—there’s room for everyone to succeed. But you also have to stand your ground when you feel undervalued or overlooked.

In the voiceover industry, it's not uncommon for voice actors to be treated as an afterthought, even though we’re often the voice that sells the product or delivers the critical message. That surprised me when I first started out, but it’s something I now tell aspiring voice actors all the time: Know your worth, and don’t be afraid to advocate for it.
