VOICED. with Karla Williams Posiuniene

Kicking off the first VOICED. of 2026, we’ve got Karla Williams Posiuniene. Karla is an award-winning writer, executive producer, and founded her own production company, MsMono, so she could tell the stories she wanted to tell whilst championing global majority women across TV, short film, and audio. Passionate about empowering diverse voices and their unique stories, Karla has created multiple opportunities for those voices to be platformed and celebrated, with multiple award-winning films and an audio project with Audible.

Known for her openness, Karla also documents the path to her creative career across both TikTok and LinkedIn. A proper example of someone creating opportunities on their own terms, it’s genuinely inspiring to watch Karla’s journey and achievements. So glad Karla could spare some time to bring us in on that journey and share her creative priorities as we move through the new year.

How are things with you?

Really good. I am feeling excited about 2026. MsMono has been sowing lots of seeds in 2025 and I am hopeful about seeing them bear fruit in 2026. I hope this will be a great year for us.

Tell us what you do...

I’m an award-winning writer, executive producer, and founder of MsMono; an award-winning production company dedicated to championing Global Majority women across TV, short film, and audio. I have worked on projects for Audible UK, ITV, PBS, Wondery and Amazon Studios, and MsMono has produced multiple award-winning short films and narrative music videos that have screened internationally. MsMono is also the original production company behind Do Not Disturb, the ground-breaking Black British comedy/drama on Audible UK

You've chosen to really place value on audio dramas through your production company MsMono, it can sometimes feel like audio drama is a thing of the past - why is it so important for MsMono to produce new and original audio drama work?

Because I personally love audio drama. It is such an intimate and character-driven medium. I wrote my first audio drama for Audible UK and LAMDA back in 2022 and absolutely loved it. I think what audio drama is crying out for is new, diverse talent, voices, and stories being told in more cinematic ways. QCode is a great company leading the way with that. The medium is brilliant, but I think the content has become a little stale.

At the heart of your work you are championing global-majority women - which is amazing! You’ve previously mentioned that stories from these contributors can too often be overlooked. What do you think are the biggest barriers that cause these stories to be sidelined, and how does the work you do help to dismantle those barriers?

There is an assumption that these stories don’t have an audience, which is just not true. Often, the people with the power to commission these stories are not from this community, so they don’t understand how large and engaged that audience really is. I am working on projects not just in the UK, but in other regions where there is a better understanding of diverse audiences. I am also building my own audience via TikTok and LinkedIn, who over time I can count on to support the work of MsMono. MsMono creates original ideas and stories that I believe audiences are crying out for.

Huge congratulations on your recent success with Do Not Disturb across Audible - an original audio drama comedy! Tell us a little bit about this project and what makes it so special?

Do Not Disturb is a riotous new Audible Original created by and starring Sherise Blackman, which will have you laughing, crying, and cringing in equal measure. The series follows insatiable Sade, who can’t get enough until a health issue puts her sex life on hold; Saffron, who thinks she’s finally found her dream man, but whose toxic ex Devon isn’t letting go that easily; and Raquel, a lovestruck hippy who seems to have it all figured out - except how to tell her step-mum that she’s gay. The cast features Rakie Ayola, Judi Love, and Saffron Comber, and MsMono was the original production company on this project. The series became a landmark moment for us, marking our entry into broadcast audio

How would you like the future of storytelling to look, specifically across voice and audio?

More diverse stories that we haven’t heard before. Stories from groups and communities who have historically been underserved at best and ignored at worst. There is such power in storytelling to make people feel seen, understood, or challenged and that power should be spread equally.

You juggle so many different aspects of creating, producing, writing and hosting events! How do you find balance?

I don’t know if I do - my frequent insomnia would suggest otherwise! I try to focus on as many projects as I can handle at one time and defer projects that I don’t have capacity for until later. I really try to give myself a break when needed and take at least one full day off a week. I also put my phone away at 8pm so that I can try to sleep better.

Lastly, who is really inspiring you right now?

I’m taking inspiration from lots of areas right now - writers, companies, directors, actors, TV shows, fashion designers. The list is long.
